Bio Suisse

The BioSuisse organic production standard, conceptualized based on principles associated with Swiss organic farming, embodies a commitment to the highest standards of sustainability and environmental care. This certification system would focus on several foundational aspects to ensure that all certified products adhere to strict organic guidelines.

Prohibition of Synthetic Chemicals: Bio Suisse would strictly prohibit the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers in farming. Instead, it would encourage natural and biologically-based methods for soil enrichment and pest control.

Soil Health and Fertility: Maintaining soil health would be a cornerstone of the Bio Suisse standard. Practices such as crop rotation, the use of green manures, and the incorporation of organic matter (e.g., compost) into the soil would be mandatory, aiming to enhance soil structure, fertility, and biological activity.

Biodiversity: The standard would require measures to enhance on-farm biodiversity. This could include maintaining hedgerows, woodland, and wild areas to support beneficial insects, birds, and wildlife, which play a critical role in natural pest control and ecosystem health.

Animal Welfare: Livestock management under Bio Suisse would prioritize animal welfare, stipulating that animals be raised in conditions that allow for natural behaviors such as grazing and foraging. Organic feed and the avoidance of routine antibiotic and hormone use would be mandated.

Energy and Resource Management: A focus on sustainable resource use would be integral to the Bio Suisse standard. Farms would be encouraged or required to implement practices that reduce water use, enhance energy efficiency, and minimize carbon footprints, such as through the use of renewable energy sources.

Certification and Compliance: To uphold these standards, Bio Suisse would implement a robust certification process involving regular inspections and audits. This ensures transparency and maintains consumer confidence in the integrity of Bio Suissel abeled products.

In essence, the Bio Suisse standard would reflect a comprehensive approach to organic farming that aligns with the principles of environmental sustainability, ethical animal treatment, and high-quality organic production.

A CERT provides inspection services for organic products in compliance with Bio Suisse  standards all over the world.
